Beginner/Advancing Beginner Directions
Horn Players
- Required–play the melody for Getting Started
- Optional–improvise (solo) at least once through the Bb blues form
Comping Instruments–Piano, Guitar, Vibes
- Required–play the melody for Getting Started
- Required–play chords as if you’re accompanying a horn player over the tune
- Optional–improvise (solo) at least once through the Bb blues form
Bass Players
- Required–play the bass line for Getting Started
- Optional–improvise (solo) at least once through the Bb blues form
Drummers
- Required–play a swing beat that would work behind the tune Getting Started
Vocalists
- Required–Sing the melody for Getting Started
- Optional–Improvise (scat) one chorus through the tune
- Note: vocalists are invited to schedule an in-person audition with Mr. Chapin–who can transpose the tune to your key
