Beginner/Advancing Beginner Directions

Horn Players

1. Required–play the melody for Getting Started
2. Optional–improvise (solo) at least once through the Bb blues form

Comping Instruments–Piano, Guitar, Vibes

1. Required–play the melody for Getting Started
2. Required–play chords as if you’re accompanying a horn player over the tune
3. Optional–improvise (solo) at least once through the Bb blues form

Bass Players

1. Required–play the bass line for Getting Started
2. Optional–improvise (solo) at least once through the Bb blues form

Drummers

1. Required–play a swing beat that would work behind the tune Getting Started

Vocalists

1. Required–Sing the melody for Getting Started 
2. Optional–Improvise (scat) one chorus through the tune
3. Note: vocalists are invited to schedule an in-person audition with Mr. Chapin–who can transpose the tune to your key
